A gentle reminder to please add the information about the May Scholastic book order below (attached flyer in English and Japanese). 

The due date to place the orders is Friday, May 14th. 

This will be the last Scholastic book order for this school year.

French Lessons for Students

We are very happy to announce further collaberation between our French colleagues at the Institut Francais with French language courses available for students of DSKI!

 

IB Evaluation Visit
We had our visitors from the IB this week looking at our school and how we implement the Primary Years Programme. We have received some nice, positive informal feedback but thw formal written report will be made available in June. We will be happy to share the results with our parents.

Many thanks to the parent volunteers who joined a meeting with them, we really appreciate the time you gave up in your day to support the school.

Student Photos
29th April
We would like to ask all parents to make sure their children have their hair brushed and teeth cleaned, ready for our school photos! We will be taking portrait shots and class group pictures (except for permission withheld families) for the yearbook. We will also be making the photos available for families.

Please note - we will have a second date for any students not here on the 29th but the class group pictures will be taken this day.

German Language
We are also happy to announce that we will run a German language camp for native / high level speakers if we have enough students. Dates will depend on demand, please contact your German teacher if you are interested!

Messge from Mr Waite -
With lovely weather approaching next week, students will start their in school sports day events during PE lessons. Students have been practicing the best way to perform various disciplines and they will participate competitively starting next week in the javelin, shot put, high jump, standing long jump, 100m & 400m running races. Points will be allocated and we will establish the most consistently performing students for each year level. 

As this year's Sports Day will be spread out over many lessons, there is a chance the process will not be complete until after the Golden Week break. 

As we are unable to have parents attend this yearWe hope to provide video footage of students performing in the coming weeks. Kindergarten team games & activities will be conducted after the Golden Week break.

We have adjusted our Coronavirus information tab to include links to the Japanese government website with information on visa and travel. The situation regarding re entry and quarantine is being updated based on the current situation so we hope this helps.

PTA

A big thankyou to the PTA volunteers who have now finished the 1st stage of the entrance renewal and the wonderful painting of the wall. It looks so great, thankyou very much!! 

It makes such a big difference coming in. We look forward to the finished entrance museum.

We are getting close now to our visit by the IB team who will spend 3 days working with us, looking at how we are implementing the programme and our plans for future development.

The visit will be remote, so they will be meeting with teachers and students via video conference. 

We would like to ask for some parent volunteers who would be willing to join a meeting with the visitors where they can have some time with you to talk about teh school programme from parents perspective.

Nobi - Nobi Passport
Going home with students today
Today Grade  1~ 6 children have received a new Nobi-Nobi passport (issued by Kobe city). This lets children visit the institutions on the list for free of charge between April 8th, 2021 and April 7th, 2022. The list in English will be sent by email attachment.

Spring Course from 3rd April

The Institut français is the official French government centre of language and culture with two locations in Kansai : Osaka and Kyoto.

We offer French group classes for kids, teenagers and adults,  workshops as well as private tuition and corporate courses.

Our Spring session will be starting 3rd April with a wide range of courses (including some online courses!).

A message from TELL.

TELL is dedicated to providing effective support and counselling services to Japan's international community and its increasing mental health needs.

TELL's April Conference titled COVID-19 Mental Health Disparities: Pursuing Equality in Japan. We will be hosting multiple speakers on April 10th, which is open to the public, and on April 11th, where we will be offering training to clinicians. 

Over the past year, the global pandemic has upended our lives and impacted all aspects of our life – including mental health. While COVID-19 cases rose, unfortunately, so did cases of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. Those especially affected include women and youth, who face inequities that have been highlighted over the course of the pandemic. Join us as we take charge of our mental health and cultivate resilience and well-being by listening to guest speakers from a wide range of groups – peers, schools, the workplace, community stakeholders, and more.
