Weather Warnings Due to Typhoons or Storms
The administration staff will make themselves aware of medium to long term weather events that would need to be monitored due to the possibility of a weather warning being issued. If bad weather is forecast in the medium term, the school will monitor on a daily basis to see if a weather warning (Keihou Warning) has been issued or is likely to be issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency website.
Procedure
24 hours in advance
A warning email to be sent to all families, advising of the possibility that the school will close, and that a further email will be sent out the next morning to either confirm closure or otherwise.
6.30am of the warning day
Principal will make a closure decision. This will be made based on any weather warning in place and also the current local conditions. Principal will email all families and staff confirming the school will be closed, or that the weather is not as severe as expected and the school will be open.
We will not default close for a red weather warning as it is given for large geographic areas. The local conditions may vary allowing us to open.
If the school is closed it will be closed for the whole day effective immediately from the 6.30am email.
School Bus on Weather Warning Days
The school bus will be cancelled on days the school is closed but will still run if the school is open even on red weather warning days.
We to revert to online learning and contact families via Google meets for a morning circle and 3 live lessons (Maths, language and unit plus any relevant specialist classes)
Fire
Procedures In the event a fire breaks out
Inform the office of the location, size and type of fire if known (electrical, chemical, building) and use the red emergency phone on the office wall by pushing the red button, bottom right. This will send an alert to the fire station on Rokko Island. The fire department will call the school directly via the emergency phone upon receiving the alert for more information. Office staff need to be informed of the situation so they can explain the emergency to the fire department.
Use of Fire Extinguishers
Only use a fire extinguisher if the fire is small, upto waist height. Fire extinguishers are located around the campus, in addition to wall mounted fire hoses.
Evacuation
If a school evacuation order is given
Teachers and students walk out in single file using the nearest available emergency exit
Staff will need to be aware of all escape route in case the fire is blocking the nearest route
Do not take any personal belongings
Assembly, Supervision of Students and Handover to Families
Underneath Rokko Liner, opposite the school yard area
Homeroom teachers take over responsibility for students if the class were with a specialist teacher
When specialist teachers have handed over the students they do a final sweep of the building to ensure no students are left behind. They then confirm all clear at the office and join the staff and students.
Classes are grouped grade-wise and homeroom teachers to take a roll call
Staff to check students for any injuries
Any missing students must be reported to the principal immediately
The students and staff are to stay at the evacuation point and follow directions of the emergency services.
Students will be kept in the care of DSKI staff until a parent, guardian or nominated pick-up person arrives to collect children. All children picked up, a log will be kept of when and by whom.
