School Lunches

Deadline - 19th March

We will continue to have a catered school lunch from Pizzeria del Rokko.

This time the lunch period will be between April 1 and June 20, 2019.

Orders can only be processed after payment has been made and confirmed.

Please be aware that in case of the absences or sickness of the child during the period the fee cannot be refunded.

The lunch will not come with chopsticks or fork. Your children need to bring them from home.

Early Years and Pre-School 

The Early Years and Pre-School children’s lunch is Y400 each and the total cost is Y21,200.

Book and Culture Week

11th - 15th of March

The Book and Culture Week Organising Team, together with the PTA and
DSKI School community are proud to present to you - DSKI Book and
Culture Week 2019. This year, we have planned a few special events
to make celebrate books and culture. Here are the events that are
happening next week. Parents are welcomed to join us for the daily
Wake-Up Shake-Up sessions, The Cultural Museum, Author’s
Session and the Parade. For the Pyjama Party, due to the size of the MPR,
we would appreciate it if only parents involved in organising and helping are there.

Monday

8.45 - 9.15 AM Wake-Up Shake-Up @ Playground

9.15 - 10.00 AM Cultural Museum @ Foyer

(Students are encouraged to wear cultural costumes. Parents who are setting up tables,
feel free to do so after 3.00 today(8 March)  or 9.00 AM - 12.00 PM on Saturday (9 March)

Students can free-flow to different stations. Bell will sound at 10 AM and teachers will
collect students and take them back to class.

Tuesday

8.45 - 9.15 AM Wake-Up Shake-Up @ Playground

9.15 AM - 10.30 AM Pyjama Party @ MPR

(Students are encouraged to wear their pyjamas, with a soft toy or

Blanket. The younger students can also bring their favourite picture books.)

G1/2/3/4/5/6 teachers will ensure that all students have a picture book to take with
them to the MPR. EY & PS school students can bring a picture book as well.

Wednesday

2.45 - 3.30 PM Meet-the-Author Rebecca Otowa

(My Awesome Japanese adventure will be available for sale. If you

have made a pre-order or would  like to purchase on the day, please prepare 1000 yen
in cash on the day itself.)

Teachers will take students down to MPR at 2.40 PM. The author will do a short presentation,
followed by a book signing session. The Book and Culture Team will organise the groups.

Friday
Book Character Dress-Up

Grade 4-6: Famous/Inspirational People

8.45 AM	Wake-Up/Shake-Up - Haka
8.55 AM	Early Years will parade around the open area, strike a pose and then go back to class.
9.00 AM	PS/G1/G2/G3 will parade around the open area, hold a pose and then go back to designated areas. G4/5/6 Parade, strike a pose and talk about their character briefly. (Who am I and what have I done or contributed to society?)
9.30 AM	Parade ends, closing ceremony and all students will go back to class.

How does the way we talk about mathematics influence our thinking? How should we talk about mathematics in order to best encourage learners? How can you talk to your children at home about mathematics so they see the real-world value of study? Come along and lets discuss!

Book and Culture Week 2019

11th - 15th of March

We want your old books!

We are organising a book swap during our Book and Culture Week. We would like all the students to bring between 1 and 5 books for the book swap. Please make sure books are -

• In good condition
• Appropriate for that student's own age group (so if the student is in 4th grade, he/she should bring a book which a 4th grader could enjoy)

Each student please bring his/her books to school in a paper or plastic bag. The bag should be clearly labelled with his/her name, grade, teacher's name, and number of books brought. The KG teachers will prepare a basket near the entrance of Kindergarten where students can drop off their books (still inside the bag). The deadline for bringing books to swap is Thursday, March 7th.

Additional book donations (if more than 5) are welcome, but these should be brought in a separate bag labelled "donation" and won't count towards a student's book swap totals (parents should make their children aware of this beforehand).

Bookmark Design Competition

Students are invited to design a bookmark based on our theme this year - "One World, Many Stories". Competition forms with a template are available at the school foyer and library. On this template, students can design their bookmarks. Students are reminded to

• Use colour pencils or markers for their design
• Refrain from using stickers, stamps or other decorations on their design
• Include their name

Designs need to be submitted by Friday, 8 March.

Entries can be dropped into boxes available in the library and school foyer. Winners will be announced on Friday, 15th March. The winning entries will be printed and distributed in the library and classrooms.

Visiting Author - Rebecca Otowa

We have exciting news to share with you about an upcoming visit from a local author - Rebecca Otowa. She will be visiting our school on 13 March at 3.00 PM as part of our Book and Culture Week. We will send you further details of her visit. She will be selling copies of her book - My Awesome Japan Adventure and we will be holding a book signing event as well.We will be pre-ordering copies of her book to sell during the event. If you would like to buy a copy and have her autograph it, please order here. This book is also the perfect present for friends back home as it showcases a very unique Japanese culture. So do consider buying a few copies to give away as presents!

Gardening Help Needed

If anyone would be interested in helping us start clearing the land outside our Multi Function Room, please come along and lend a hand! It will be the start of phase two, developing our outdoor space into a great place for the children to play.

Carnival

February 28th, 9.00am

On Thursday, February 28th, we are going to celebrate German Carnival with the whole school! We are looking forward to having this event with students and parents from 9:00 a.m. - 10:40 a.m. starting in the Multi Purpose Room.

Students are encouraged to come to school dressed up on that day or they can change when they arrive at school. As there is no theme for the German Carnival, any costume is fine, but keep in mind that the students have to be able to follow their regular class schedules after 10:40 a.m. (Students need to change for P.E.!) Parents are highly encouraged to dress up, too!

The school day will begin as usual at 8:45 a.m. From 9:00 a.m., all students and parents will meet in the Multi-Purpose Room. There will be an introduction to the German Carnival followed by a dance. To round off the celebration there will be some games offered upstairs for Grades 1-6 and in Early Years for Pre-KG to Preschool. Parents are welcome to join their kids for these activities! At the end, the PTA will provide a traditional Carnival snack in the form of Berliner (donuts) before the students return to their classrooms to continue with the school day.

In Germany the highlight of Carnival is Rosenmontag (Rose Monday), with parades through the streets and celebrations in public squares. Carnival music is played and lots of candy thrown into the crowds. While we cannot mimic the festivities perfectly, we will have some child-friendly indoor activities with lots of fun, balloons, and candy!

Students are encouraged to come to school dressed up on that day or they can change when they arrive at school. We are very please to announce we will be hosting Ms. Helene Boulègue at our school who will be perfoming a flute recital. She is a leading flutist from Germany and currently the leading flute player at Stuttgarts Radio Orchestra. She is in Japan for some performances and we are lucky to have her visit us. It will unfortunately be during our ski trip week, but all parents are very welcome to come along and enjoy the show.

Event 2 - Cultural Museum

We would like to invite parents to set-up stations to introduce their culture to the students.

Event 3 - Lullabies

We would like to invite parents to present lullabies in their native language (at our mass pyjama party)

Feel free to form groups or teams for these events. We only need one representative/ leader's name on the sign-up form.

Flea Market
Monday 11th - Wednesday 14th February
Next Monday - Wednesday, we will have the grade 1/2 Flea Market. Thank you to those who brought in things for us to sell. The students will take turns helping at the table for 15 minutes during snack, lunch and after school. You are welcomed to come and take a look after school in case you'd like to do some shopping. Students can shop during these times as well.

Developing Real-World Skills Through the PYP Exhibition

In the PYP, students are encouraged to be curious and caring lifelong learners with the capacity to take responsible action. A crucial part of the programme is the exhibition, a culminating in-depth and collaborative project held during the final year of the programme. Through this session, we hope to share you how this culminating experience is the pinnacle of PYP education.
