Student Led Conferences

10th - 14th June

Soon we will have our Student Led Conferences and you will be receiving an invitation from your homeroom teacher.

This is an opportunity for the students to have a chance to show parents what they have been doing in their units of inquiry,

single subject lessons and in the classrooms in general. The preparation for this is very much giving the responsibility to the students.

Letting the students decide what the classroom will look like and what the activities and learning experience are which will be set up

for the parents to enjoy!

The Lion King Drama Production

Thursday 20th June

7.00pm (Doors open at 6.45pm)

Grade 3 and 4 will be presenting The Lion King as the culminating project for their year-long drama unit (How We Express Ourselves).

This production is open to all DSKI families, friends and previous students. Please come along and enjoy the show, our students and teachers have worked really hard and our PTA has done an excellent job making some really super costumes so it will be a fantastic night for all!

Year End Party

Friday 21st June

10.00am - 1.00pm

We would like to invite all families to join us for the End of Year Party to celebrate a successful and busy school year together,

say farewell to families and staff who are leaving us and of course a big congratulations to our graduates!

This year our program will be lead by our clubs, featuring performances from Karate, Ballet and Baton, videos from skateboarding,

soccer, cricket, gymnastics and basketball. We will have static displays from all the others, to show you just what great things our

students do after our lessons end.

The schedule for the day will be as follows:

8.30 am - Children arrive at school – food for shared lunch to hallway area

8.45 am - Wake - Up Shake - Up

9.00 am - Classroom time

10.00 am - Start of program in the MPR

11.15 am - End of program and children return to class; preparation of buffet, parents invited to join classes

11.55 pm - Start of buffet (Parents, please supervise your children!)

12.55 pm - End of event - (Parents, please be sure to collect your empty food containers.)

1.00 pm - Dismissal for End of Year

We will need your help!

From 11:55 am you are invited to join other families and staff for a buffet style lunch. Each class will be responsible for

bringing food to share. Look at the list below to find your child's class.

Please make sure you provide enough food for 4 - 5 people. If you are bringing more guests, kindly provide an extra portion

for them. Your child can bring the food to school in the morning and hand it over in the

hallway to the PTA.

Alternatively, parents can bring the food with them before the start of the program.

● Pre-K & Pre-school Drink(2Lx2) & fruits

● Kindergarten Rice or bread

● G1, 2 & 3 Main dishes

● G4 Desserts

● G5 & 6 Salad

Please also bring a picnic mat to sit on in the outside area.

If the parents have more than one child in our school, they should go with the younger child's grade food/drink. Please put your name on

any containers you would like returned to you at the end of the day. We want to prevent dishes being lost to the busy day.

When dropping off food in the morning, please also include ice packs to keep your contribution cool. PTA will set up tables in the hallway

for the food to be placed on from 8:30 am. After the buffet is finished, remember to take leftover plates, cups, and other items home.

Car Parking

We have had a call from the police recently asking us to remind our parents not to park on the road outside school for long periods of time. If you are staying for more than drop off, please could you use the pay car park opposite.

Loose Parts : Inspiring Play in Young Children

We have often marvelled at the long hours children can spend playing with simple materials like boxes, rocks, shells, sand or water.  Come and be inspired to find out how you can incorporate loose parts play at home without the chaos and mess. In this session, we will explain the theory of Loose Parts play and show you practical examples of setting it up at home, even allowing you to be a child again and see these materials through a child’s eyes. Let’s get messy and be inspired!

Japanese Cooking Workshop for our German Visitors
We are looking for parents who would be able and willing to offer a workshop for the German students who are visiting us. Anything you can prepare in our school kitchen would be suitable. How to make Sushi would maybe a great experience for our guests too!
The workshop should take place on Wednesday, 05th of June from 16:00.

Gardening - A Big Thankyou
Many thanks to all the parents who turned out and helped with the landscaping of our ourdoor area. It is very much appreciated! The artificial grass is missing though, the supplier cancelled the order as the amount we needed was too much... so please let us know any alternative ideas.

Our PTA are in the final stage of decision making on what the new outside are will look like. At the next PTA meeting the final decision will be made after extensive consultation with the staff and contractors. So please look out for the minutes from your class representative. We will attach a design to the minutes for all to see and looking forward a lot to the new outdoor play area.

on the cover of our yearbook.

The cover must meet the following criteria:

Be on a piece of A4 paper and in portrait format.

Based on the theme “Learning by head, hand and heart”

Contestant’s name and class should be written clearly at the back of your design.

Designs should be submitted to Ms.Shingam by Friday, 24th of May 2019

The winner will be announced on Friday, 31st of June 2019.

International Kids Day

We are very happy to announce that once again our school will be represented at the International Kids Day here on Rokko Island.

We will have a information stand and activities for visitors, as well as students performing on stage from our Karate, Dance and Baton clubs plus a selection of songs from the Lion King musical - so come along and enjoy the show!

The students involved will receive invitations and will need to arrive from 10.30am for the performance starting at 11.00am until 11.30am.

Gardening Help Needed
16th, 17th May, 9.00am
If you are free next week Thursday and Friday we need as many people as possible to help out with our final gardening work! We want to lay artificial grass outside the multifunction room and tidy our storage areas, so we can then have a very big new play area for our students. 
Please just come along and enjoy the atmosphere!

Open Day

Visitors from Germany
May 31st - June 11th
Our former sports teacher Mr Philipp Seifert will be visiting us with Grade 7 and 8 students from Germany, joining different classes and projects. We are looking forward to welcome them to the school.

School Fee Payment and Bus Options

If any parents would like to change their tution fee payment plan or bus service options (for example changing to 1-way only, change to round trip, or no bus service) for next school year, please email our office sekretariat@dskobe.org by 17th May.

We are happy to amounce that we will be accepting a quarterly payment option from August.

Holidays
29th April - 6th May
Just a reminder that the school will be closed from the 29th April to the 6th of May for golden week, so first day back is Tuesday the 7th of May.
The school office will be closed for the whole vacation.

Music and Movement for Young Learners

See the importance why we connect young children with music. Through modeling and gentle guidance, very young children can learn to read basic rhythmic and melodic patterns as they sing, play, and move to music. Hands on, practical Parent Cafe!

We will have a photographer in school on the 8th to take pictures of all our students who joined the school after October and missed the first visit. 

Cross Country Run

Green Belt on Rokko Island

The school will celebrate the Cross Country Event on Thursday, May 9th, 2019, from 9.30am to 11:30am. Grade 3, Grade 4 and Grade 5&6 will be participating in this even and will arrive at the regular time to school. 

At 9.00am students will head to the Green Belt on Rocco Island. Please find days timetable below. All parents are invited to follow their children during the running events from 9:30 - 11:30am

Secondary School Admissions

As part of our ongoing collaberation with the secondary schools we feed into, Mr Inman met yesterday with the headmaster of Canadian Academy, Jon Schatzky. The feedback about our graduates is very positive and next school year we will be further developing our connection and we look forward to sending many more of our students there in the years to come. 

Hats
Very Important!
As the weather is now getting hotter, please make sure that your child has a hat for outside play from after Golden Week. No hat - no play!

Student Art and Princesses

In case you are in town, please make a trip to MOTOMACHI SHOTENGAI (Shopping Arcade) to look at the art our DSKI children made.

This was for the Motomachi drawing contest and the pictures will now be displayed between Saturday, 27th April and Monday, 6th May 2019

in the arcade's 5 chome of Motomachi. Just ask the locals!

Another event is the INFIORATA in Kitano-cho.

The whole of Kitano-zaka Street will be covered in flower carpets with elaborate designs from Saturday, 27th April to Monday, 29th April 2019.

Beside the flowers there will be music, food stalls, performances, a Harley Davidson exhibition and our very own DSKI princesses!

DSKI Makers Camp 2019 / Tinker Tots

The DSKI Summer Camp is a specially designed camp for curious makers to construct, tinker and engineer, with a strong focus on developing soft skills and independence.

We have included a special programme for our Early Years Students. Tinker Tots is a Mini-Makers Camp for the younger students to have fun tinkering. Using well-loved stories as provocations, our little campers will engage with varied resources and explore their ideas while having fun in a play-based, sensory-rich environment.

Grade 5 and 6 Exhibition

In the final year of the PYP, students carry out an extended, in-depth, collaborative project known as the PYP exhibition. This involves students working collaboratively to conduct an in-depth inquiry into real life issues or problems.

Our Grade 5 and 6 students have started their exhibition unit. They are progressing well and have started intensive research into issues that are of interest to them. We are looking for experts in our community whom our students could contact to ask questions or consult.

Nobi Nobi Passport

G 1~6 students will receive a Nobi Nobi passport next week. This lets students visit many institutions for free of charge (from April 8th, 2019 to April 7th, 2020). A list of institutions will come with the passport in Japanese. If you need an English version, please click this link.
