DSKI Book Day
Thursday 7th March

We will be having a lot of fun reading and book activities for the students to enjoy, helping build and foster a love of books and reading. 

We also invite your children to wear their pyjamas to school. Getting into pyjamas and reading at home just before bed is something a lot of children do. So, coming into school in their pyjamas and reading will be a good way to connect this and promote the fun and joy of books.

Parents - during the day we would like to invite you to come in and read to the children. You can do so in any language that you would like to! Please bring some books from home you would be happy to share and just let your childs homeroom teacher know.

Sustainability - Innovation for the Future!

19th to 23rd February

Welcome to our STEM week!

Instead of our usual schedule, all DSKI students from prekindergarten upto Grade 6 will spend the week working together on sustainability problems, using STEM to look for solutions and exploring ways to help preserve and improve the world for all. Any parents who would like to get involved, please don't hesitate to let the school office know.

This will then culminate in a school wide exhibition on the 23rd for students to showcase their work, parents are welcome to come in and see!

Sustainability problems we will look at -

Early years will look at how we can repurpose waste materials. 

Lower primary will explore how they can use robots and machines to improve the world around them

Upper primary will design new products that will help to prevent waste pollution.

School Wifi

We are happy to announce that we have upgraded our Wifi system and today we will switch over to the new network. What does this mean?

Instead of the old DSKI network we will now have a high speed system with three networks to enhance our security. One for staff, another for students and for parents we will have a guest network.

If any parents need to use the school wifi, please ask in the office for the password. Please note, we ask users not to pass it to other parents or 3rd parties and we will reset the guest password monthly.

Ski Trip for Upper Primary 

Many thanks to our teachers Ms Harris, Ms Schelin and Mr Mayr for the 2024 ski trip for our grades 3 - 6. Everyone had a great time and the snow was perfect!

Kobe Storks Basketball

DSKI is happy to announce a new collaboration between the local pro-basketball team - the Kobe Storks.

In March we will be hosting them here at DSKI to run a game clinic with our students and they will also be inviting DSKI families to watch their game - Please see a letter to DSKI families here -

We are a professional basketball team in Kobe city.

We would like to invite you to attend our home games at World Memorial Hall on February 10-11 and at Nishinomiya City Central Gymnasium on February 23-24. This is part of the "Kobe Storks × Hyogo Prefecture × Hometown Tax Cooperation Project," and we extend a free invitation to all elementary, junior high, and high school students in Hyogo Prefecture!

As of January 31, the Kobe Storks are currently in 4th place in the Western Conference. The second half of the regular season has just begun, and we are aiming for a playoff spot to advance to B1. We have crucial games ahead, and your passionate support will be crucial in filling the arena with energy for our players!

Thank you to all who have signed up for student and parents clubs for the 2nd semester. So far we have a good turnout for many of the clubs, but there are still some that are in need of more members in order to reach the minimum number of four students. If they don’t reach the minimum, then we may have to cancel some of the offerings.

Families will be notified of cancelled clubs next Tuesday, February 6th and will still have a chance to join another club.

Move To Learn School Project in Mumbai, India
We are happy to announce a new project starting in Mumbai led by our Saturday School Coordinator Cecil Burton, is in the process of setting up a special needs school for underprivalaged students who need extra help and support with their learning.  

The school will be run on a non-profit basis and profits from the school will be put back into providing and expanding more affordable or free, special needs services for lower income families who cannot afford to pay to get the help they need for their special needs child.

All Pumkins are Different

When you call in for your three way conferences next week, please enjoy our art exhibition, a Yayoi Kusama inspired exhibit of paintings and sculptures created by all primary students under the guidance of their wonderful art teacher, Mr Lubin.

We are also happy to announce that Mr Lubin will be exhibiting his work at Singapore Art Week under the Taksu gallery and he has also been selected to exhibit further work during the Kuala Lumpur Art Fair. Congratulations to Mr Lubin and if you are there at the time, please take a look!

Congratulations to Emma from kindergarten who collected 50, 620 Yen in donations for earthquake relief - many thanks for taking action Emma!

Zen Workshop 
Didier Hartmenn is running a Zen workshop later this month. Muho Nölke is quite well known in German speaking countries like Switzerland, Austria and Germany and will be visiting Kobe to run the workshop.

Any parents who would like to see our evacuation drill and how we run it, please feel free to join. 

- Please could we ask to keep clear of the students, so watching from a location close by the school - 

We will hold a parent cafe at 9.30am to discuss how we will manage things if we every had a natural disaster and answer any questions you may have. So please join us in the STEM room if you would like to take part.

Just a reminder, please could all families fill in the Emergency Contact / Pick-Up form by Friday the 19th. Once complete this will be printed out and kept as a hard copy in our emergency contacts folder until we update it at the start of next school year. Please do let us know of any changes before then.

Earthquake Donations
If any families would like to help the earthquake hit communities by the sea of Japan, Emma from our kindergarten has taken action by designing and making a donation box! 

If any families would like to donate, next Monday the 15th please send cash in a sealed envelope with your family name written on it to school with your child. Emma will call round each class in the morning and ask for any donation, which can then be dropped in the box.

We will soon be issuing our student report cards for the 1st semester and from today you will be able to book a time slot for a three way conference during the week of the 29th January.

This is a chance for you to meet together with your homeroom teacher and child to discuss how they are doing and what your child wants to work on for the next semester.
