a happy and safe summer vacation! We look forward to seeing you all back here in august. Big thanks to all for the school year, parents for their support, teachers for their dedicated professionalism, PTA for all their super work with school events and library work, the school board for all the great work they do with our planning and lets not forget our wonderful support staff. Without whom the school would simply not run - our office manager, fianance officer, janitor, cleaning staff and of course our great bus driver!

Dear DSKI community, 

Thank you for the overwhelming support and all those donations! Because of your generosity, over 600 meals can be served to Kobe’s homeless community. I raised over ¥150,000! That is SIX times my original goal, which was ¥25,000!! I couldn't have reached that enormous amount without your help! Thank you again for your support and for spreading the word. A special thank you to Mr. Inman for putting this on the school blog, and to Miss d’Amours and Miss Shirai for guiding me through my PYPx journey.

Yearbook and Student Photos

Our yearbook will be delivered soon and when you receive it you can also see your child's portrait photo. We will be sending out an order form so that if you like the photo you can request it, for a small donation. All photos will be sent as electronic files, straight to your email account, wherever you may be.

New Laptops

Last year we bought new chrome laptops for upper primary, this year we have got new chromebooks for our lower primary school, which arrived today! We will also be adding new tablets to our kindergarten classes. So all of our students will now have access to good, high quality IT equipment.

Big thankyou to Decathlon

We are really happy to say that the sports store Decathlon has been very generous in donating some great sports items. Scooters and some great badminton sets. The students really enjoyed opening the boxes and getting them in use. We really like the badminton set carry case!

Hello my brother and I are doing our exhibition project about poverty. My brother and I come from the Philippines and the Philippines is not a very rich country. We care about our country a lot and during this time of COVID we really want to help. Right now a lot of people in the Philippines are struggling since they lost their jobs or now they can't get hired and are not able to make money for the day. They can't support themselves or their family, that's why the community pantry started, (read more about it in the attached pictures). Our plan is to raise money and donate it to Kiri Dalena, who started one community pantry in her village. She is also a visual artist and a human rights activist. We are donating to her so she can buy more food for the pantry to give to the community and because they are planting new crops, she might also be able to buy new seedlings and materials. And finally, the reason why we are telling you about this is because we can't raise all the money on our own, we need YOUR help! Let's work together as a community to help each other. Message from Tomoharu K and Miles P
Hi, this is Tomoharu and Miles in Grade 5. We are working on the PYPX, focusing our topic on poverty. We are interested in poverty because we care about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are selling a bag that comes in two options of a red or a blue bag and each of them is 1500JPY.  We would appreciate your support in purchasing a bag because when we get the money we will donate it to UNICEF so they can help children in poverty. We want to get 16,000 JPY or more. It is 16,000 JPY because that is the minimum amount that will allow us to buy both the Vaccine Special Set and Nutritional Diet. The vaccine prevents children in poverty from getting viruses for example, Covid-19 and the Nutritional diet lets the children eat so they would not starve. (more is also explained in the poster.)

I have learned that the number of homeless people worldwide, including Kobe, Japan, is on the rise because of Covid-19. Having no home puts people especially at risk, because they are not able to receive basic services like vaccination cards. Seeing all this, I wanted to take action. To be a magnet for good. I am planning to raise awareness while raising funds for a soup kitchen, benefiting the homeless. My goal is to make ¥25,000 by June 1st, to fund one soup kitchen meal that feeds around 100 homeless people.

The thing is, I can't reach that goal without your help! I'm donating my time to create custom Keira-Art using a photo of your choice. Grade 3 Stomp!

This month it is time for Grade 3 to share what we've been doing. Our current unit of inquiry is into drama as a universal artform that allows us to express ideas and feelings.

After watching some videos of the musical performance group STOMP! the students were inspired to create their own. Each group created their own routine together collaboratively, and each member created their own solo routine that needed to incorporate a pattern of some sort. A very big thankyou to Ms E Palmer who was so kind to do our student photos for the yearbook. They look great and very professional! 

We would like to offer each family the opportunity to have the jpeg photo. Due to the quality being so high we would like to use the chance to also raise some funds for the school. We would ask that any family who wants their picture, please just make a donation. This is of course entirly down to you to decide, just follow your consience...

We have included a sample photo here for you to see the jpeg style, and we will open up the order form once the yearbook is published so you can see your childs image first before you decide. The jpegs we will send will of course be large size.

Bus Seats
We are very happy to announce that we have received a very generous sponsorship gift from Recaro this week. They have been so kind in donating two child seats for use in our school bus. They loook great, and are designed for the Japanese climate with a mesh material to allow for good air cirulcation.

A huge thankyou also to Ms A Moench, our Prekindergarten teacher who arranged the sponsorship. Ms Moench does a tremendous job for our school in areas like this.
