DSKI Earthquake Drill and Tsunami Drill

We had our Spring earthquake drill this week and all went fine. We were happy to host the diplomatic security staff from the US Consul in Osaka as observers, who also advise us on how we can improve our safety measures.

Please may we remind all parents to make sure all your emergency contact and designated pick up persons are up to date in the school office.

DSKI Book Day Celebration: A Day of Reading, Creativity, and Community
The DSKI community is excited to celebrate Book Day — honoring our love for reading and storytelling!

Students and teachers will dress up as favorite book characters for a festive parade, while guest parents bring stories to life for our youngest learners.
We’re delighted to welcome celebrated author and illustrator Satoshi Kitamura, who will lead creative workshops for Primary students, and Consul General Melanie Saxinger, who will share one of her favorite books with our community.

The celebration wraps up with a friendly gathering for parents and students run by our school board, more details to follow.

From April 20–23, we’ll also hold a Book Drive to be sent to a non-profit organisation Room to Read Japan. Please drop off any old books you’d like to donate at our donation point in the main entrance.

Grade 5/6 - End of PYP Exhibition

IB Evaluation Visit
We hosted some visitors from the International Baccalaureate organization for 3 days this week, who visited us as part of their quality control for IB schools.

We are very happy to say that we had very positive feedback, describing our staff as having a high level of professionalism and enthusiasm for the school. They were also very impressed with our students level and engagement. 

A big thankyou to our Pedagogical Leadership Team who were described as doing significant work to develop the programme, describing the PYP as advanced. They would like DSKI to share how we do this development planning with other IB schools as an example of good practice.

So please be reassured as parents, that we are a very well established and respected IB school!

Nobi - Nobi Passport going home with students
Grade 1~ 6 children receive a new Nobi-Nobi passport (issued by Kobe city). It lets children visit the institutions for free of charge between April 8th, 2026 and April 7th, 2027.
Hyogo prefecture‘s Kokoron card has also been handed to G 1 children.

This time the lunch period will be between April 1 and June 19. Orders can only be processed after the payment confirmed.

Please be aware that in case of the absences or sickness of the child during the period the fee cannot be refunded. The lunch will not come with chopsticks or fork. Your children need to bring them from home.

Our young innovators will have the chance to dive into the future with a 3D Printing Workshop and a fascinating session with a guest speaker exploring the world of AI. Our STEM room will also be transformed into a hub of science and engineering, where every grade level will rotate through a series of interactive challenges and experiments. From testing the laws of physics to creative problem-solving, we can’t wait to see our students’ ideas take flight. Keep an eye out for photos of our little scientists in action throughout the week!

Congratulations to our Sports Teams

We had two inter-school competitions today, our upper primary football team playing at One World International School in Osaka and our basketball team playing here at DSKI.

Both our football team and our basketball teams won gold! Congratulations to both teams!

Help needed - one of our students in Grade 5/6 is currently researching about the evolution of sports shoes, in particular basketball shoes. Do any parent shave any old basketball shoes from past styles? Or any shoes in photos? If you do, please let the office know and we will contact you. Thankyou!

Flutist Evelin Degen (Robert Schumann University of Music Düsseldorf) and organist Matthias Geuting (Folkwang University of the Arts Essen) will perform a program including music by Bach, Mozart, Frescobaldi and Debussy, as well as four contemporary works. One of the contemporary composers will be present.

A big thank you to all the parents who took part in our library book sale — whether by donating books or making a contribution. Your support truly makes a difference.

Together, we raised ¥18,700!

Earlier this year, we introduced a Wish Box in the library to collect book requests from our eager readers, and we were delighted to receive so many wonderful suggestions.

We are planning to purchase new books from those requests using the funds raised.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our library grow.

We warmly invite you to a Parent Café on Friday, February 27th, at 9:00 a.m. in our STEM room. The topic will be A1 and A2 German learning for non-native speakers.

During this session, we will explain how students build their German skills step by step, what the A1 and A2 levels mean, and how we support children in developing confidence in speaking, reading, writing, and listening. You will also receive practical tips on how to support your child’s language learning at home.
